2022 Topps Series 1 Jumbo Hobby Box Break

The Topps Flagship release for 2022 series 1 comes at an interesting time in the hobby. A lot of uncertainty is circling around the recent announcement that Fanatics will be purchasing Topps. They seem to have big plans, but exactly what those are remain to be seen at this point. Either way, this release was planned well before the announcement, so we haven’t started to see the effects just yet.

Along with the Fanatics purchase, Major League Baseball is also faced with a labor lockout, postponing spring training, and possibly the start of the regular season. So, while series 1 normally ushers in the beginning of a new baseball season, it comes under a dark cloud this year.

The release itself is a standard format. The base set contains 330 cards, and provides a normal assortment of parallels. By looking at the odds to receive some of the numbered parallels, it becomes clear that the print run is way up from previous years. Demand seems to be through the roof, but is it from collectors? Or speculators? Only time will really tell.

A jumbo box contains ten packs with 46 cards per pack, including one autograph and two relic cards. Also included in each box are two silver packs containing 1987 Topps Chrome mojo refractors, as well as one oversided 1987 Future Stars card.

2021 Topps WWE Hobby Box Break

Another long delayed release finally finds its way to store shelves. With the end of the year approaching, and Topps losing the WWE license, we’ll see a final push to get out the remaining releases. This set combines matches and moments with roster cards, for a total of 200 base cards. There are also an assortment of insert sets available.

A box is advertised as 24 packs of 7 cards, with two hits, one of which is guaranteed to be an autograph. A new type of hit is possible in this set. It is a film strip included in the card, allowing you to see the image showing through. It’s a departure from the standard piece of mat relic from previous releases.

2021 Topps 206 Wave 9 Hobby Pack Break

Wave 9 features minor league cards paying homage to the original T206 release. Prospects are featured in their minor league uniforms. Unsurprisingly, the print run has rebounded significantly with collectors looking for these prospect cards. With a print run of 11,668 packs, this wave sees one of the highest runs in 2021. For this wave, Carolina Brights are replaced by Hindu Red backs. There are also a small number of major leaguers featured in their minor league uniforms as short printed inserts.

2021 Topps Heritage WWE Hobby Box Break

This release had been pushed back a little bit during the year and now comes out after it is announced the WWE trading card license will be moving to Panini in 2022. Couple that, with many recently released talents being featured in this release, and the set has a weird feel to it. It’s been a few years Topps released a Heritage set for wrestling, so this one moves forward to the 1990 baseball design. It also mixes in a few other releases, such as Allen & Ginter, as insert sets.

The base set features 100 cards, across SmackDown, Raw, NXT, and WWE “teams”, with a different color combination for each, as well as a number of limited parallels. There are a handful of insert sets, including Allen & Ginter, stickers, Superstars Speak, and more. A hobby box comes with 24 packs of 7 cards per pack, and advertises 2 autograph cards.
